IRS Cybersecurity Program Needs to Improve Functions, TIGTA Says

The IRS’s cybersecurity program is not fully effective, according to an annual evaluation the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration released Monday.

The program’s components are not at acceptable maturity levels, according to the report, with three function areas described as “not effective” and just two as “effective.” The methodology defines “effective” as being “managed and measurable,” the fourth-highest maturity level, or “optimized,” the highest rating.
